Why do we choose to move around constantly with no permanent home base?

travelcompass thumb why we do this It’s really quite simple.  There’s a great big world out there to discover, and the best way to really uncover all that an area has to offer is to explore it like a local.  Living in each place for short periods helps us to determine where we will ultimately end up when we hit our golden years.

We have owned several properties from Florida to Michigan, from small subdivision homes and high-rise condos to large lakefront estates.  At each juncture, we’ve discovered that these places weren’t the end to our journey, but a simple stop along the way.  There’s always more world to discover.

worldmap1 thumb why we do thisSo we sold the majority of our worldly possessions to enjoy the freedom of packing light, moving easily, and not missing out on those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.  Digital nomads if you will. 

While we have the fiscal means to stay in short-term housing, furnished apartments, or hotels wherever our travels may take us, this is hardly the best way to get integrated into the local culture and to discover the hidden charms that only the locals know about.  As George Clooney says in “”, “Me?  Well, I guess I live right here.

image thumb why we do thisThe other benefit of house sitting is that we are often also pet sitting.  One downside of being happily homeless is that it’s difficult to be pet owners.  Since we’re both animal lovers, house sitting with a pet satisfies our need for Animal Therapy.
